William Wallace
Lord William Wallace of Saltaire is Professor. of International Relations at the London School of Economics. He is also a member (peer) of the British Parliament's Upper House - the House of Lords. Lord Wallace is affiliated with the Liberal Democrats political party.
Lord Wallace was made a Peer in 1995 and became a spokesman on Foreign Affairs and Defence. In 1997 he became a member of the Select Committee on the European Communities and Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Justice and Home Affairs. In 2001 he became the Party's main frontbench spokesperson in the House of the Lords on Foreign Affairs. In November 2004 he was elected joint Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Peers. He wrote Why Vote Liberal Democrat for the general election in 1997.
Lord Wallace was born in Leicester on March 12th 1941. He read history at Kings College Cambridge in 1959. He studied for three years at Cornell University in the USA and then finished his PhD at Oxford University on the Liberal Revival 1955-66. He was a lecturer in the Department of Government at the University of Manchester from 1967. Prof. Wallace has been Director of Studies of the Royal Institute of International Affairs 1978-1990. He was then Walter Hallstein Senior Research Fellow at St. Anthony's College, Oxford until 1995 and since then he has been a Professor of International Relations at LSE. He has published several books, including The Transformation of Western Europe (1990) and several editions of Policy-Making in the European Union.
